MacArthur Beverages California Barrel Tasting continues to be the premier event of its kind. The event presents the attendees a rare opportunity to talk to the wine makers, sample and reserve over eighty different wines from some of California’s top wineries before the wines are released. Each year the wineries draw samples of wines from the barrels and send them to be shown at our event. Normally only professional wine merchants and sommeliers get this opportunity. The 29th annual California barrel tasting and vintners dinner continues to honor two men who enjoyed great wine, great food and great friends. Addy Bassin, the founder of MacArthur Beverages, had a vision to create a California futures program offering customers an opportunity to sample and then purchase great wines years before their release. Sadly Addy passed away in 1986 shortly after the first barrel tasting. Addy’s son, Bruce, took over the operation of the store and continued to improve and expand the event started by his father. The Addy Bassin Cancer Research fund was started in Addy’s honor at the second tasting in 1987. In 1999 after the very sudden and tragic passing of Addy’s son, Bruce, his name was also added to the charity.
California Vintners Dinner
The Annual Vintner’s Dinner will be held on Friday March 28, 2014. We are very excited to announce Executive Chef Didier Pouzier for the Mandarin Oriental, Washington D.C, will once again be preparing this years dinner. Chef Pouzier got his start in South Florida at the Grand Bay Hotel in 1995 as banquet chef. He joined Mandarin Oriental, Miami as banquet chef in September 2000 part of the pre-opening culinary team, promoted executive Sous chef in 2001. In 2010, Chef Pouzier became executive chef of Mandarin Oriental, Miami. In 2013, he joined Mandarin Oriental, Washington D.C. He produced what is widely regarded as the finest Vintners dinner we have been served at the Mandarin Oriental.

California Barrel Tasting
The California Barrel Tasting featuring the 2012 vintage will be on Saturday March 29, 2014. As always, there are two sessions - the first from 12:30PM until 3PM and the second 6:30PM until 9PM. The sessions are identical – most people come to one or the other – but there are some wine lovers who come to both ! Tickets for the tasting are $150.00 per person per session. This year we will be featuring Cabernet Sauvignon based wines from the highly anticipated 2012 vintage.

The Mandarin Oriental has a limited number of rooms on hold at a very special rate of $269.00 per night for this event.
