In-Store Tasting:
The Wines Of Poliziano
with Andrea Paolucci

Wednesday, September 13th, 4-7:30

Poliziano Estate

Andrea Paolucci Born and raised in Rome worked for his family's company for two years, but his passion for wine and the desire to take a different life path led him to Montalcino where he ended up managing a small winery in Brunello called Le Macioche. In 2017 Andrea became the North American export manager for Poliziano.

Proprietor  Dr. Federico Carletti's estate now stretches to 240 hectares, 120 of which are within either DOCG – for Vino Nobile – or DOC – for Morellino – production zones. Dr Carletti is passionate about every inch of his vineyards and employs dramatically low yields to ensure that his Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon are of the very highest order. The results have made the Poliziano estate not only one of the finest in the region but in the whole of Italy.

2015 Rosso di Montepulciano DOC Poliziano

True to the character of the wines from this estate this one has great finesse and precision  with just enough power and weight to balance. Intense red fruits including damson plum and  cherry shine. Finishes with super-fine tannins and plenty of refreshing acidity and just a touch of  oak.  Great as an aperitif wine but full enough for medium fare pair with grilled meat or pasta during the week.

2014 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG Poliziano

This Stunning wine is deep ruby  in color with intense bouquet of red berries and black cherries.  Medium to full bodied on the palate with subtle notes of spices, and  tobacco. Fine tannins and bright acidity bring a long enticing finish smooth and velvety

2013 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Vigne Asinone DOCG Poliziano

The 2013 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Asinone is impeccable. Dark red and bluish-hued notes abound. There is an element of weightlessness to the 2013 that is quite appealing. Lavender, licorice, cloves and mint are some of the nuances that develop in the glass. The 2013 is not a blockbuster, as some previous editions have been, rather it is a wine built on finesse.

2015 LeStanze Poliziano

Considerably darker, softer and more full-bodied than the sangiovese wines, more sweetness, more liquorice. Delicious! The grapes are around 80% cabernet sauvignon, the rest is merlot. All aged in new barrique for 16 months before bottling.  Interesting contrast to the DOCG wines of this estate but  one can definitely see the potential of aging  this wine it is a  more Bordeaux like animal.  Another reminder that the Italians can make great wines with international  varietals when they put there minds to it.
