1800 Reposado Tequila 750ml
1800 Tequila was founded by the Cuervo family and takes its name from 1800, the year historians credit as the first time tequila was rested in oak. Owned today by the Beckmann family, the same family behind Jose Cuervo, the brand launched in 1967 with an Añejo and later added the Silver and Reposado expressions in 2004. Production takes place at Destilería San Juan de Gracia in the Jalisco lowlands, a region known for supplying agave with a softer, earthier character than the highlands.
This Reposado is made from 100% Blue Weber agave, cooked and fermented before undergoing double distillation in stainless steel pot stills fitted with copper coils. A selection of the resulting white tequilas is then blended and rested for several months in a combination of new American and French oak barrels. That brief oak contact rounds out the spirit's edges while still letting the agave character come through, landing it in a lighter, more approachable style than longer-aged reposados.
On the nose, oak-laced agave gives way to a palate of buttery caramel, mild baking spice, and a whisper of smoke. The finish turns brighter, with sweet orange peel, white pepper, and a touch of marzipan lingering after each sip. It carries enough structure to sip neat or on the rocks, while its balance of sweetness and spice also makes it a reliable choice for margaritas and other citrus-forward cocktails.
