1989 Chateau Gruaud Larose St. Julien Ex-Chateau release (750ml)
"The wine of kings, the king of wines" is the motto emblazoned on the label of this storied second-growth estate, whose history stretches back to 1725. The 1989 has evolved slowly and gracefully over the decades, still showing an impressively youthful structure decades after harvest. Expect fabulous aromas of crushed red fruit, leather, tar, tobacco, and mint, with cigar wrapper, loamy soil, and cedar rounding things out. Full-bodied with supersoft, silky tannins and a beautiful polish, open, luscious, and richly decadent while still retaining vibrant acidity and genuine freshness. This Ex-Château release is guaranteed direct-from-château provenance, a serious consideration for a wine at this stage of maturity.
