2015 Fonseca - Porto Guimaraens Vintage Port
Released from established cellars overlooking the River Douro, the 2015 Fonseca Porto Guimaraens Vintage Port delivers the concentrated character typical of a declared vintage year. Hand-selected grapes undergo double fermentation, then rest in seasoned wooden vats until November of their second growing season. At that point, the wine transfers to glass bottles where slow integration continues, allowing primary fruit aromas to deepen alongside earthy and floral developments over extended bottle maturation.
Tasting reveals a dense arrangement of blackcurrant, stewed raspberry, and dark cocoa sitting alongside hints of graphite, clove, and dried orange peel. The mouthfeel carries substantial body with polished tannins that grip the palate before yielding to a long, savory finish. The natural sugar retention combined with brandy addition yields a rich, viscous texture built to improve steadily through additional cellar development.
Serve between 55 and 60°F to preserve aromatic clarity and temper the alcohol heat. Decant immediately before service to separate naturally occurring lees left behind during long bottle conditioning. Complement the wine’s natural sweetness with intense flavors like Roquefort, 12-month Aged Gouda, or bittersweet chocolate ganache. Once sealed with its original cork, keep the bottle upright in a cool environment and complete the remaining contents within three weeks to maintain balance.
