2016 Bordeaux Last Chance

This is you last chance to buy at Future prices ! This offer will end on Oct 31 or when the wines sell out.

I just returned from four days in Bordeaux along with Phil Bernstein.  We were there to have a look at the harvest for 2018 vintage and to taste 2016s that are now bottled.  Weather throughout the Summer of 2018 had been warm and dry – precursors for a very good vintage.  Harvest for the red grapes started in late September and continued until around October 12.  Weather during the harvest was perfect – highs of 75* and lows of 55*.  You couldn’t buy better weather for a harvest. 2018 will certainly be an excellent vintage.  We will start seeing prices from the chateaux and offering the wines in May 2019.

We can also report that 2016 is indeed a Great vintage.  It is a legendary vintage, destined to be remembered with the 1982s, 2000s, 2009s and 2010s.

The 2016s are absolutely remarkable wines. The word that comes to mind, unfortunately so often overused, is balance. In technical terms, the 2016s boast off the charts tannins that in many cases exceed those of wines from massive vintages such as 2010. And yet, the best 2016s are absolutely harmonious, with the tannins barely perceptible at all. The 2016s also have tremendous energy and bright, acid-driven profiles, with many wines playing more in the red-fruit area of the flavor spectrum. One of the results of the unusual growing season is that alcohols range from 0.5% to 1% lower than what has been the norm in recent years.” Antonio Galloni

Here is a short list of some of our favorite Bordeaux wines from 2016. These are still at ‘Futures’ prices even though the wines are now in bottle and will be shipped early in 2019.
