2021 Jean-Marie Fourrier - Chambolle Musigny Amoureuses V.V. (750ml)
Jean-Marie Fourrier took over his family's domaine in Gevrey-Chambertin in the 1990s, at just twenty-three years old, after training at Domaine Drouhin and working alongside Henri Jayer. He now farms around ten hectares across Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, and Vougeot. Fourrier is known for a light-touch style in the cellar, using minimal new oak and sulfur so that each site's character comes through clearly.
Les Amoureuses is widely regarded as the finest premier cru in Chambolle-Musigny, sitting just below Le Musigny on gravelly limestone that gives its wines unusual finesse for the village. Fourrier's parcel is old vine, hand-harvested and vinified with a portion of whole clusters, then aged in barrel with new oak kept deliberately low so the site's perfume is not masked.
True to Fourrier's house style and the freshness of the 2021 vintage, this Amoureuses leans toward red fruit and floral perfume rather than weight, with cherry, red currant, and rose joined by a fine dusting of spice. The palate is silky and precise, carrying bright acidity and a fine powdery texture through to a long, saline finish. It is elegant rather than powerful, built to show real charm with a few years of age.
