Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat was founded in 1962 by Alain Hudelot in Chambolle-Musigny, where the estate remains based. His grandson, Charles van Canneyt, took over winemaking in 2008 and has steadily built the domaine's reputation for wines of elegance and purity rather than sheer power. Working across a small but exceptional set of holdings in Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, and Vougeot, Charles favors minimal intervention and has pushed quality higher with each recent vintage.

The domaine's Clos de Vougeot parcel covers about 0.7 hectares near the château, in plots known as Chioures and La Garenne, sitting in the upper part of the Clos where the finest, most complex wines are traditionally made. Grapes are carefully sorted, mostly destemmed, and fermented with native yeasts. The wine then ages in barrel, roughly half new oak, for two winters before bottling without fining or filtration.

The 2022 is deep and broad-shouldered, opening with sweet red berries, incense, and spice, joined by hints of potpourri and sweet soil tones. The palate is medium to full-bodied, layered, and concentrated, with fine-boned tannins, enough acidity, and a youthfully taut structure that still hides some of its detail. It is built to age quietly for a decade or more before showing its full character.

93-95 Points
"The 2022 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a tightly wound, mineral-driven bouquet that needs time to gradually unfurl. Black rather than red fruit here. The medium-bodied palate has sappy red fruit, fine depth and good grip. A more sinewy Clos Vougeot that should stand it in good stead for long-term aging. Excellent."
