2022 Coquard Loison Fleurot - Charmes Chambertin (750ml)

Not long ago, much of Domaine Coquard-Loison-Fleurot's production was sold off to négociants. That changed after Thomas Collardot, born in 1984, took over the cellar in 2010 and the domaine began focusing on its own bottlings. Today this true Burgundian family estate is sought after around the world, with a remarkable spread of six grand crus across Gevrey, Morey, Vougeot, and Flagey-Échezeaux.

The domaine's 0.35-hectare parcel lies near the bottom of Mazoyères, the southern section of the Charmes-Chambertin grand cru, whose wines can be firmer and more structured than those from Charmes proper. Wines from Mazoyères may legally be labeled Charmes-Chambertin, as this one is. As with every CLF wine, the grapes are picked by hand, and the wine spends roughly 18 months in oak before being bottled without fining or filtration.

Black cherry and wild strawberry lead a fresh, lightly spiced nose with floral and earthy accents. The medium-bodied palate is sleek and savory yet firmly structured, with mineral detail, a grippy frame, and a dash of cracked pepper on the powerful finish. Cellar it for several years, then serve with braised oxtail or roast goose.
