2022 Coquard Loison Fleurot - Clos de la Roche (750ml)

Domaine Coquard Loison Fleurot is based in Flagey-Échezeaux in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits. The estate sold its grapes to négociants for generations before winemaker Thomas Colladot and commercial director Claire Fleurot began bottling under their own label around 2010. Colladot, a close friend and stylistic peer of Sébastien Cathiard, favors gentle extraction and terroir transparency. Together they farm roughly nine hectares spanning twelve appellations, including six grand crus.

Clos de la Roche is a walled grand cru vineyard in Morey-Saint-Denis, prized for its limestone and clay soils. The domaine's parcel lies in the Chabiots and Mochamps sections, with vines dating to the 1930s. Grapes are hand harvested and partially destemmed, with about twenty percent whole clusters retained, then fermented with native yeasts before roughly eighteen months in French oak, about half new, and bottling without fining or filtration.

This Clos de la Roche opens with mineral-laced black fruit that turns increasingly floral, showing rose petal and iris alongside plum and violet. On the palate, crunchy black cherry and orange peel meet warm spice, framed by fine, persistent tannins and a long, savory finish. Its structure rewards cellaring, though it also suits roast duck, grilled lamb, or aged Comté.
