Tasted as a sample in June 2017, the 2016 Langenlois Gruner Veltliner Alte Reben is from 40+-year-old vines, mainly in the Spiegel and Kaeferberg. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in 2,500-liter Austrian oak barrels until the summer of 2017, this is a pure, bone dry, fresh and firmly structured Gruner Veltliner with remarkable tannins and stimulating salinity in the finish. It is a Burgundian Veltiner with great purity and freshness. It was harvested in the second and third week of October in the stop-and-go modus, as Andreas Wickhoff explains.
