Brundlmayer's 2020 Ried Heiligenstein 1OTW Kamptal Riesling is the only Heiligenstein shown here, so no Lyra and no Alte Reben, which I assume will be released a year later. The nose is very clear and bright in its aromas but still discreet in everything and more lean and fresh rather than deep and complex. Very pure and almost ascetic. Finely juicy, crystalline and salty on the delicate and balanced palate, this is a medium-bodied, pure and sustainable, well-structured and persistent Riesling made for long bottle aging. The Heiligenstein doesn't have much charm currently but will gain in complexity and sensuality with bottle age. This is a very specific, unrivaled style for Austria. Tasted in Grafenegg, September 2021.
