Belle Pente's 'entry-level' Pinot Noir is always one of the finest in the Valley and often outperforms much more expensive 'premium' bottlings elsewhere. In the cooler, more classically-styled, 2019 harvest, this is juicy, fresh and mouthwatering for sure, but suffers no loss of the generous black cherry, plum and currant fruit that we've loved in other recent vintages. The lift and silky mouthfeel perfectly balance the palate-staining fruit intensity and layers of smoke, sweet tobacco and loamy earthy notes. The finish pops nicely, with light tannins and juicy acids giving it excellent sustain and refreshment. This will age 8 years without breaking a sweat, and it's sure to be even better as it unwinds. But, wow, is it ever compelling and delicious right this very minute.

Belle Pente is one of the finest estates in the Willamette Valley that hardly anyone knows. But as Vinous said two years ago, these are always among Oregon's best values in high-end Pinots. And as Wine Advocate has reported, Brian cuts the figure of a thoughtful, artisanal vigneron, keeping things simple and making wines of character and nuance rather than showy performance wines...Belle Pente make straightforward wines without the frills or air of superiority - which can make them better than others.
