A dark and rich mix of plum sauce, grilled herbs and hints of animal musk lifts up from the 2013 Montefalco Sagrantino. This is silky and pliant in feel, with ripe cherries and inner earth tones giving way to a salty collection of minerals and grippy tannins toward the close. The palate aches with youthful tension, as this slowly tapers off to nuances of tobacco and balsamic spice. A few years of cellaring will be required to fully enjoy the 2013.
