The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva hits the palate with a burst of wild cherry, game, smoke, tobacco, worn-in leather, licorice and dried herbs. A wine of pure intensity and structure, the 2016 is marked by a real feeling of unrestrained intensity. On its own, the Riserva is a bit overpowering, but then again, these wines are made for the dinner table. I imagine the Riserva would be absolutely divine with grilled steaks.
