The 2015 Reyneke Cornerstone is a blend of 37% Cabernet Sauvignon (the only cultivar raised in new oak), 27% Cabernet Franc and 36% Merlot. Bunches are hand-sorted and destemmed into concrete tanks, the grape varieties fermented separately and then blended with a selection of the best barrels. It has quite an intense bouquet of red and black fruit, cassis, boysenberry jam and light white pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with tobacco-infused black fruit, quite masculine and grippy in the mouth. While it is somewhat introspective at the moment, it is certainly a candidate for aging three or four years in bottle.
