From 75- to 85-year-old vines and picked at 90° Oechsle, the 2021 Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese was vinified in stainless steel and in fuder and fermented to 7.5% alcohol with 76 grams per liter of residual sugar. The wine offers a pure, very elegant and finely flinty, lemon-scented and tonic bouquet with remarkable elegance, substance and finesse. The striking acidity of 9.2 grams per liter is lifting all the analytical sweetness to the spheres of pure Riesling fruit and gives great elegance and finesse on the palate. This is a crystalline and saline Riesling with stimulating ripe and lush fruit and frisky mineral acidity that makes this a long-distance runner for those who are patient. The wine was aged on the full lees until April, when it was bottled. Screw cap. Tasted in July 2022.
