The 2019 Ried Schnabel 1ÖTW Kremstal Reserve Grüner Veltliner is from loess soils covering the characteristic conglomerates of the Rohrendorf terroir. In fact, the conglomerate seems to flow into the intensely citrus-colored 2019 that is precise, fresh and citric on the nevertheless substantial and flinty-elegant nose that also reveals perfectly ripe fruit aromas between white and yellow; I also pick some fumé and sage aromas. On the palate, this is a fruity, elegant, finessed and stimulatingly fresh Schnabel with lingering and mouth-watering salty acidity and tannin structure that takes the 2019 to a long, very elegant, structured and tensioned finish. One of the greatest, or possibly the greatest, Schnabels I have tasted here in 15 years. 14% alcohol. Tasted at Schloss Gobelsburg in June 2021.
