With 25 years at Cloudy Bay, Kevin Judd was key to the global renown of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Today his Greywacke wines are standard bearers in their own right. This elegant, textural vintage brims with zippy pineapple sorbet, elderflower blossom and green mango freshness, with bracing lime acidity and a creamy passion fruit curd finish.

The 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Greywacke offers focus and palate weight. It builds a sense of richness, balancing the vintage's natural acidity. This has fresh elderflower, pineapple and delicate passionfruit. Despite a difficult season, it is a thoughtfully made and well-judged style which offers clean, clear and pure flavors.

Distinctive, succulent and wonderfully complex, offering stone fruit flavors on a rich, smooth and mouthwateringly juicy frame, with notes of honeysuckle, honey-preserved ginger, creamy lemon curd, ripe mango and flowers. Hints of spices linger on the long, expressive finish. “To be honest, not a huge amount has changed since I first made Sauvignon Blanc in Marlborough,” says Greywacke founder Kevin Judd, who has been making wine in the region since the mid 1980s. His focus is on optimizing canopy management and yields to achieve solid ripeness (and steer away from underripe and green characteristics). With winemaker Richelle Tyney, Judd continues to raise the quality bar for the category. Part of their strategy is to lightly press the grapes to yield a modest volume of best-quality juice, the majority fermented in stainless steel tanks with cultured yeast, with a portion of the juice spontaneously fermenting with indigenous yeast in old oak barrels before it’s all blended together.
