Abbona's 2013 Barolo Ravera (from the Monforte Ravera) comes across as lean, compact and austere, especially next to the more generous Pressenda. It will be interesting to see what further time in bottle does here. For now, the 2013 is built on a core of persistent, sinewy tannins and bright acids. If the fruit emerges, the Ravera might turn out to be an even better wine than it is today. Sweet tobacco, mint, orange peel and dried flowers linger on the aromatic finish.
