The Girolamo Russo 2022 Etna Rosso 'a Rina is a 40,000-bottle blend of 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio. The winemaking approach consists of a simple formula that sees equal parts oak, cement and stainless steel. Fruit comes from across several sites, including Contrade Feudo, San Lorenzo and Calderara Sottana, which are fermented separately. It shows a mid-weight appearance and dark ruby highlights. The bouquet offers an interesting mix of dried berry, star anise, pressed rose and a savory side with licorice and barbecue spice. The effect is quite open, immediate and charming, fundamentally.
