Darker berries, plums, graphite, and scorched earth aromatics emerge from the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon No. 2, a medium-bodied 2023 with a nicely balanced, pure, layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. I love its overall purity and balance, and this is a smoking effort, especially at the price. I like it today, yet I see no reason it shouldn't evolve nicely over the coming decade. Drink 2025-2032.
The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Vineyard II No. 2 comes from a west-facing site high on Diamond Mountain. Aged in a mix of new French (28%) and Austrian oak (14%), plus a substantial proportion of older French oak, it offers up scents of blueberries and black cherries, plus hints of bay leaf and vanilla. It's full-bodied, broad and expansive on the palate, framed by silky tannins that roll easily into a long, softly dusty finish. It's a super value in mountain-grown Napa Cabernet.
