Asbach Selection 21 yrs Brandy 750ml
Asbach Selection 21 Year Old Weinbrand Brandy (750ml)
Most Americans have never heard of Weinbrand — and that's exactly why this bottle is such a find. Asbach was founded in 1892 by Hugo Asbach in Rüdesheim am Rhein, and after World War I, when the Treaty of Versailles decreed that "Cognac" could only be used for French products, it was Hugo Asbach himself who coined the term Weinbrand — literally "wine spirit" — as the official German classification for grape brandy. The category he invented now encompasses some of Europe's finest aged spirits, and the Selection 21 is the crown jewel of the house.
Only distillates from the best vintages and finest wine-growing areas are selected, then matured for at least 21 years before being blended into an exceptional cuvée aged in Limousin oak casks. The nose is deeply complex — dried fig, date, orange marmalade, polished oak, and dark chocolate. The palate is richly textured and seamless, offering layers of toffee, roasted nuts, candied citrus peel, and cocoa, with oak fully integrated and subtle spice notes of clove, nutmeg, and vanilla unfolding gradually across the mid-palate. The finish is exceptionally long, smooth, and warming.
The Ultimate Beverage Challenge awarded it a Chairman's Trophy, noting "endless layers that come out with each sip." Think Cognac at its most polished — then be pleasantly surprised by the price. Sip it neat.
