Boissiere's recipe was originally developed in 1857 in Chambéry, in the Savoy region straddling Mont Blanc, at a time when the area still fell under the historic Duchy of Savoy. In 1971 production relocated across the mountain to Turin, Italy, giving the brand a claim to both historic capitals of vermouth production, French and Italian alike. The exact formula has remained a closely guarded secret for well over a century, still marked by the angelic cherubs that appear on every bottle.

Boissiere Sweet begins as a Chambéry-style vermouth base, blended with an eau de vie infused with a proprietary selection of botanicals that reportedly includes marjoram, chamomile, coriander, and cloves. Caramelized sugar is added to build the vermouth's characteristic sweetness and deep color, following the traditional method common to the style. The finished vermouth has picked up numerous accolades over the years, including scores above ninety points from outlets like Wine Enthusiast.

In the glass, Boissiere Sweet shows a deep red hue, with aromas of nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, and clean florals layered over coriander and marjoram. The palate carries that herbal profile forward into a well-integrated sweetness, with jammy blackberry notes leading to a fresh, lingering finish.

"Made from a recipe developed in 1857, which includes marjoram, chamomile, coriander, and cloves. While it can be enjoyed neat as an ap?ritif, this pleasantly complex and perfectly sweet vermouth really sings in a Manhattan or negroni, with plenty of versatility for further cocktail creation."
