Aroma: Herbal, sweet and fragrant, with a subtle, distant perfumed smokiness. Next a quirky, zesty note like lemon balsam emerges, along with a suggestion of linseed oil and candied walnuts. A splash of water and the fragrance intensifies, emitting heather honey, a touch of creosote and the tiniest trace of tent canvas.

Taste: The texture is fizzy and effervescing (sherbety), with a real, vibrant effervescence on the tongue. At first the flavour is intensely sweet, then shifts as aniseed, toffee, digestive biscuits, peppermint, menthol, tar and coffee grits burst through.

Finish:The sooty/tarry flavours keep building, until they finally dissolve into a long, lingering aftertaste of antiseptic lozenges, bitter oranges and oak tannins.

For over a quarter of a century, this rare Single Malt has developed and mellowed, becoming concentrated, full-bodied and indulgent, brimming with the dark intensity of chocolate praline and spices. 

The nose is nutty, with marzipan, crystalized sugar, floral notes, dry spices, fallen leaves, malt, potpourri, and fresh oak. It's thick, syrupy, and sweet on the palate, with strawberry, golden syrup, baked apricot, almond, clove, pepper, and flambéed banana, with buttery toffee and Quaker oats developing later. This whisky is all about the mouthfeel, with the oloroso finish adding sherry-kissed finesse to an otherwise impressive distillery character. (342 bottles)

Appealing aromas of vanilla sponge, lemon bonbon, green apple, caramel, light peppercorn, and clove. Lemon flavors and citrus acidity land on the palate, adding caramel syrup, vanilla, pepper, and clove. It's a heady and intoxicating experience, but this is quality whisky from well-selected casks, with the penetrating spices alluding to a higher-strength whisky. With a soft golden luster and light viscosity, the Fuenteseca 18yr is at first glance a refreshingly un-manipulated spirit, lacking the added coloring and accentuated flavorings common among more commercialized extra anejo tequilas. Opening the cork closure reveals light aromas of pear and jasmine flower, with an enticing dry wood spice. The entry is rich, round and creamy with hints of granny smith apple and soft vanilla. Cedar and sandalwood notes gradually emerge, along with a moderate acidity. The extended finish is clean and balanced with a trail of minty green apple.

To make this exquisite liquid, mature Laphroaig previously aged in refill hogsheads was transferred into first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and refill quarter casks. Patiently aged in Laphroaig’s famous Warehouse No. 1, these casks were then hand selected for a final maturation.
