Gosling's 151 Black Seal Rum 750ml
Gosling's Black Seal 151 Proof comes from Gosling Brothers Ltd, a family company that traces its roots to 1806, when James Gosling's American-bound ship lost its charter mid-voyage and he ended up settling in St. George's, Bermuda, instead. He and his brother Ambrose opened a wine and spirits shop there, and the family began blending its own rum in 1860, releasing the dark, full-bodied Old Rum three years later, the spirit that would eventually become Black Seal. Now in its seventh generation of family leadership, Gosling Brothers remains Bermuda's largest exporter of any locally made product.
Black Seal 151 is a blend of pot still and continuous still rum distillates imported to Bermuda and aged for up to three years in charred American oak barrels before blending. The standard Black Seal is bottled at a more moderate strength, but this overproof version was introduced in the 1980s to meet growing demand among bartenders for high-strength spirits suited to bold cocktails and flaming garnishes, and it is bottled at a full 151 proof, or 75.5% ABV.
This rum delivers an intense, warming rush built around deep molasses sweetness, dark caramel, and vanilla, with a spiced, smoky edge that carries through to a long, slightly bitter finish. Its high proof gives it a concentrated richness that holds up even when diluted into mixed drinks.
