Herradura Anejo Legend Barril Acanalado Tequila 750ml
Herradura was founded in 1870 by Félix López at Hacienda San José del Refugio in Amatitán, Jalisco, remaining in the López family for well over a century before eventual acquisition by Brown-Forman. The brand is known for aging its tequilas longer than most competitors and for the horseshoe imagery tied to its name, a nod to the legend of a horseshoe found on the property during the distillery's founding. Legend Barril Acanalado extends that aging philosophy further, built specifically around an unconventional approach to barrel construction.
This Añejo is made from hand-selected, fully mature 100% Blue Weber agave, naturally fermented and distilled before resting in new, heavily charred American white oak barrels for a minimum of fourteen months. What sets this expression apart is the barril acanalado, or grooved barrel, a design that cuts deep channels into the barrel's interior to expose the spirit to significantly more surface area of toasted oak than a standard cask allows. That expanded contact accelerates and deepens the wood's influence, producing a notably darker, richer añejo than Herradura's standard aging process yields.
The nose opens with warmly melted caramel and rich, woody vanilla, joined by a subtle current of oak and agave underneath. On the palate, the tequila turns full-bodied and velvety, moving from sweet caramel and vanilla into cinnamon, nutmeg, and toasted oak, with agave lingering quietly in the background throughout. The finish is long and smooth, closing with a final touch of toasted spice. Its density and structure reward slow sipping, whether taken neat or over a single large ice cube.
