Johnnie Walker Double Black Whiskey 750ml
Johnnie Walker Black Label was created in 1909 by the founder's grandsons, who had patented the Johnnie Walker name the year before and built the brand's now-iconic square bottle and striding dandy emblem. Black Label went on to become the world's best-selling deluxe blended Scotch, and it was that reputation the company drew on when developing an even bolder expression for drinkers who wanted more intensity from the familiar style.
Double Black was launched into global travel retail in 2010 before rolling out more widely the following year. Master Blender Emma Walker and her team build the blend by combining naturally smoky whiskies sourced from Scotland's West Coast, including a larger proportion of Islay malt than standard Black Label, with whiskies matured in heavily charred oak casks. The result carries no age statement and is bottled at 40 percent alcohol by volume, presented in the brand's signature square bottle finished in smoky grey glass.
The nose is rich and slightly oily, with honeyed sweetness giving way to smoke. On the palate, raisins and sultanas mingle with apple, pear, and orange zest, softened by creamy vanilla and spice. The finish is long and warming, closing on oak tannins and lingering smoke.
