Mancino Rosso Amaranto Vermouth 750ml
Mancino Vermouth takes its name from Italian bartender Giancarlo Mancino, who began working with a small family-run distillery in Piedmont in 2011 to bring his recipes to life. The town pictured on the label is Pignola, his hometown, and the vermouth carries the protected Vermouth di Torino designation, meaning it must be built on an approved Italian wine base and include wormwood among its botanicals to legally use the name.
Rosso Amaranto starts from a Trebbiano di Romagna wine base, fortified and infused with thirty-eight botanicals, including vanilla, rhubarb root, juniper berries, myrrh, chiretta, cloves, and orange zest. The botanicals are still ground in a traditional mill that has been in continuous use since the 1930s, then steeped in sugar beet neutral spirit before blending with the wine. The finished vermouth rests for six months before bottling at sixteen percent alcohol.
Deep tawny brown with red flecks and caramel highlights, it opens with woody spice, clove, cinnamon, and orange zest, backed by pine and meadow-flower notes. The palate turns bittersweet, with rhubarb and toasted wood giving way to a lingering wormwood edge and candied orange on the finish. It is built for a Negroni or Manhattan, though it also holds its own alongside aged gouda or a spiced pear dessert.
