In-Store Tasting:
The 2015 Azelia Crus...
with Lorenzo Scavino

Saturday, February 22nd 1-4pm

Lorenzo Scavino began to vinify part of the grapes produced in the family's vineyards, a small rural reality in the heart of the Langhe region, in Castiglione Falletto in 1920. His son Alfonso started enthusiastically to bottle the wine produced and with perseverance and willpower, the wines were for the first time exported. Alfonso's son Luigi now dedicates to the family vineyards maniacal carefulness and attention. It is from the raw material, the grapes, that he obtains the very great quality of his wines. Harvest is totally by hand, through a rigorous selection bunch by bunch. A minimum of two green harvests per year are carried out for each vineyard to further reduce the yields.

2016 Dolcetto dell'Oriolo

A rich, dense version, offering blackberry, plum, earth and tobacco aromas and flavors. Vibrant and long, with fruit and earth notes lingering.

2018 Langhe Nebbiolo

True Nebbiolo, in purity. From it the brilliant and lively color. Violet and floral aromas, juicy, with refreshing touches of cherry, strawberry and currant. The aging in steel, permits, more than ever, the performance of the variety characters. Raspberry in primis. Zesty acidity, fully attractive. Extremely ripe tannins. An approach to Barolo with instantaneous drinkability.

2015 Barolo DOCG

Aromas of coal dust and tar with a distinctly savory, stony edge and nuances of dried herb-wrapped cherries. The acidity is assertive and delivers a strong burst of red plum-pit flavor, ahead of chalky, smooth tannins. Nice balance.

2006 Barolo Margheria DOCG

The 2006 Barolo Margheria is totally Serralunga in its dark, vibrant fruit, violets, tar, iron, smoke and licorice. Endowed with tons of length and energy, the Margheria reveals notable complexity and a wiry, taut expression of fruit. Although impressive for its sheer power, my only wish is that the Margheria had a touch more depth to match its formidable structure. The wine's balance, though, is terrific
