2016 Famille Brechet Lirac Plateau Des Chenes

A highly scored 2016 Rhone at the lowest price in the USA

"…it's a no-brainer purchase from this estate"

The Brechet family is best known for their incredible property in Chateauneuf- Chateau de Vaudieu which sits right next door to Rayas (good real estate indeed!). They also fashion some top-notch Gigondas and Lirac and when we were offered their 2016 (best Rhone vintage since 1990?) Lirac at a great price we bought all we could. This is a juicy delight and perfect for the Fall grilling season.

2016 Famille Brechet Lirac Plateau Des Chenes

A wine that always seems to deliver, the 2016 Lirac Plateau des Chênes boasts a medium ruby color to go with terrific notes of red fruits (strawberries, cherries), flowers, ample spice, and subtle minerality. Possessing medium to full-bodied richness, a silky, elegant mouthfeel, and beautiful balance, it's a no-brainer purchase from this estate that's going to drink nicely for at least 5-7 years.

Also just arrived from Vaudieu:

2018 Chateau de Vaudieu Chateauneuf du Pape

Vaudieu's main cuvée, the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape, is about 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre. As usual, it's a ripe, lusty version of Châteauneuf, round and generous on the palate, with supple tannins. Black cherries pick up subtle herb and spice nuances on the softly dusty finish. It's a wine that gives pleasure now and should continue to do so for another decade.

2018 Chateau de Vaudieu Chateauneuf du Pape Val de Dieu

Based on 66% Grenache, 24% Syrah, and the rest Mourvèdre, the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape Val de Dieu was brought up in a mix of demi-muids and 24% new barrels. This medium purple/plum-colored 2018 gives up a rich, meaty bouquet of ripe red and black fruits, spiced meats, dried Provençal herbs, and licorice. This is a ripe, powerful, medium to full-bodied 2018 that does everything right, offering a stacked mid-palate, sweet tannins, and a fabulous finish. You can drink this beauty any time over the next 12-15 years.
