Pendleton Original was created in honor of the Pendleton Round-Up, one of the oldest and most prestigious rodeos in the American West, first held in 1910 and still running in Pendleton, Oregon. The brand's roots trace to Hood River Distillers in Oregon, founded in 1934 as the first legal distillery in the state after Prohibition, though production of the whisky itself shifted to Canada in 2017 following the brand's sale to Proximo Spirits, the New Jersey-based owner of Jose Cuervo and Stranahan's.

Pendleton Original is a blended Canadian whisky, distilled in Canada from northern grains and rested in American oak barrels across multiple vintages before being blended together. The distillery does not publicly disclose its exact mash bill, though Canadian whisky production typically favors a rye-forward grain profile. After maturation, the blend is shipped to Hood River, Oregon, where it is cut to its final 80 proof using glacier-fed spring water drawn from Mt. Hood, a step the brand credits with giving the whisky its smooth, consistent character.

On the nose, Pendleton Original offers vanilla, honey, butterscotch, and custard, lifted by a touch of freshly grated cinnamon bark. The palate carries warm fall fruit and honey balanced against gentle spice, finishing smooth with medium body and a clean close.
