Tomatin 12 yr Bourbon & Sherry Cask Whiskey 750ml
Tomatin distillery sits in the Scottish Highlands south of Inverness and endured a difficult stretch in the 1980s that culminated in Japanese ownership in 1987, a turning point that shifted the company's focus from sheer volume toward quality. Today the distillery exports to more than fifty countries and produces its own single malt range alongside brands like Cù Bòcan and The Antiquary. The 12 Year Old Bourbon & Sherry Casks expression replaced an earlier sherry-finished version in 2016 and now serves as Tomatin's core entry point.
This whisky is matured in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels and Spanish Oloroso sherry casks, a dual-cask approach that builds layered sweetness rather than relying on a short finishing period. It is bottled at 43% ABV, a modest increase from the 40% strength used in earlier releases, giving the whisky slightly more presence without sacrificing its easy-drinking character.
The nose opens with wild heather, pine, and cedar, giving way to crème caramel, apple, and pear alongside raisin and orange zest. On the palate, that same fruit sweetness continues with mango and cinnamon, backed by milk chocolate and a touch of nutmeg. The finish is full-bodied and buttery, with a soft sherry note lingering at the back of the palate.
