Tradition is the first or introductory wine from Haut Monplaisir. As with all the domain’s cuvées, this is 100% Malbec. Tradition is made and raised primarily in concrete vats, with 30% raised in neutral barrels. Aromatically intense, with rich spicy mineral fruit, this is a long, earthy rendition of Malbec. Production averages 4,200 cases.
The “second wine” of the estate, sold only at the cellar since 1990 but now made from a newly acquired parcel with very rocky limestone soils in Castelnuovo Berardenga just outside the Chianti Classico zone. Giovanna supplements it with certain vats of the first wine, Le Trame, that don’t make the cut, often a significant proportion. Aged for one year in wood vats (5-30 hl) and bottled in the spring. With vines averaging 50 years in age, Les Grezeaux is Baudry's oldest parcel, and it produces their most ageworthy wine. The wine is fermented in cement vats and matured 15 months in unlined cement.
