Destillerie Purkhart has been producing eaux-de-vie, schnapps, and liqueurs in Austria's Tyrol region since 1932. Now guided by Günter Purkhart, a distiller known for his exacting standards, the family business trains many of today's leading distillers and has built its reputation on capturing authentic regional fruit character. The line is imported to the US by Haus Alpenz, which has helped introduce a range of traditional Austrian liqueurs to American bars.

This liqueur is built around Austria's celebrated Klosterneuburger apricots, known locally as Marillen. Purkhart selects the fruit each season from family orchards in the Danube Valley, combining fresh apricot juice with an eau-de-vie distilled from the same fruit rather than relying on a neutral base. Bottling at a higher proof with reduced sugar keeps the fruit's natural intensity at the forefront, a technique the distillery applies across its fruit liqueur range to preserve aromatic depth.

The result is a liqueur with real stone fruit character rather than a candied or one dimensional apricot flavor, offering ripe orchard sweetness balanced by a touch of brandy warmth. It works well wherever a recipe calls for apricot brandy, lending body and aromatic lift to cocktails, and can also be enjoyed simply topped with sparkling wine or wheat beer.
